Pre-Op Assessment (25th May 2010)

Today we had our our pre-op Assessment with Sister Denise Davies at the Peninsular Centre for Reproductive Medicine.
Both Dave and I were weighed and had our blood pressure checked, then we sat down and answered questions relating to our general health and well being.

The sister described in more detail the process involved in doing the retrieval of the eggs and sperm, now as we get closer to that day a small amount of fear is creeping in!!!

All in all the Sister did her best to reassure us both about the retrieval process and I think she has to paint a picture on the more severe side so there are no nasty surprises on the day.

The 1st Buserelin Injection (18th May 2010)

This morning started like any other morning except that on this morning at 6am I would have to over come one of my greatest fear, the fear of needles.
Too nervous to administer it myself Dave did it for me and with in less then a minute and one short sharp sting in the thigh it was all over, now it remains to be seen weather it gets easier each day as we go on!

The drug we injected today was called Buserelin, the amount to be injected daily is 0.3ml.
The drug also has to be injected at the same time every day, (we have chosen 6am).

The Last Contraception pill (17th May 2010)

Today I took the last ever of the contraception pill...... yippee!!!

The Last Planning Appointment (13th May 2010)

Today we had our last planning meeting with our fertility nurse at Peninsular Centre for Reproductive Medicine.
I was given my first medication schedule which is a time table explaining which drugs o take on which days and for the next two weeks at least its quite simple just a single injection a day.

Also at this visit the fertility nurse gave us a practical demo of how to use the puregon pen which is a semi automatic injection system and also a demo of how to use the standard needle and fluid bottle method which is used for Buserelin.

Then we booked our 2 scan dates.

The Letter that came on 28th April 2010

Yippee today we received a letter from the Sister at the Peninsular Centre for Reproductive Medicine saying "An appointment for your last planning meeting with Becky (our fertility nurse) has been made for Thursday 13th of may 2010 at 1pm, please bring with you your Buserelin injection"

The letter also said a pre-op assessment appointment has been made for you and Dave for Tuesday 25th May 2010 at 2:30 and 3pm.

This represents a big step really as it kind of finalizes a lot of planning and now we actually have an idea all be it a vague idea of when we are likely to conceive, staying optimistic of course of a positive outcome.
